Uffie – ADD SUV (featuring Pharrell) (Youtube)

It’s a bit of a mixed bag, is Uffie’s debut album Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans. Apart from the riotous MCs Can Kiss, this is pretty much the only decent track on the album.

After dropping Pop The Glock in 2006, it’s taken four years for her to get her stuff together, and that’s too long. Despite a few guest appearances here and there, she’s produced nothing and the momentum has gone. What sounded fresh back then don’t no more. The blend of her half spoken vocals over some of France’s finest electro beats (Mirwais, Busy P, SebastiAn et al) is unfortunately wearing a little thin.

That said, this is a nice little track with a half boring, half exciting video. Essentially bits in cars = dull, bits on greenscreen = ace.

Rather bizarrely, Uffie’s record company have decided to block embedding on the Vimeo version of this video, so I’m linking to someone’s rehost on Youtube. Considering how long Uffie’s been out of the picture, if her record company aren’t prepared to let this go viral I can’t see her ever becoming more than a cult artist.

When you have that sort of monotone vocal track you need something interesting going on in the back to compliment, but her music is just as flat.

Yeah, it’s a shame. Pharrell’s bits are fun though.
