27 Apr 2010Just a quick post about my upcoming radio show The Sounds of Space: Eno, Apollo and Voyager which I’ll be presenting this Saturday (May 1st) from 7:30PM on Brighton Festival Radio.
The show will feature an exclusive interview with Professor Brian Cox, star of the BBC’s Wonders of the Solar System and all round clever bloke. If that wasn’t enough, we’ll also be going over to the performance of For All Mankind for a special live link-up.
Here’s the official blurb (which I wrote so it isn’t really that official but is still amazing):
The Sounds of Space is an exploration into man’s musical interactions beyond our atmosphere. On the eve of live performances of “Apollo: This is for all Mankind” at the Brighton Festival, Mark Higgins will be playing Brian Eno’s original soundtrack in full, and also broadcasting part of the performance live. The show will also look at the Voyager Golden Record, launched into space in the 1970s to represent the earth to any intelligent life that might find it. The show will also feature an exclusive interview with Professor Brian Cox from the BBC series Wonders of the Solar System.
You’ll all know tracks from Apollo even if you don’t know it – it’s been used copiously on TV adverts and in films including 28 Days Later, and in my opinion it’s one of Eno’s finest records. The Voyager record is a fascinating topic to be getting into, and I’ll be talking about how they put together a record to represent earth as a whole and the difficulties Carl Sagan and his team faced. It is all a bit flipping posh.
If you’re lucky enough to live in Brighton you can tune into direct on 87.7FM on your wireless. If you live anywhere else around the world you canĀ listen live online, and I suggest you do.
This is going to be my presenting debut, and I’m super excited about it. I get to play out some really interesting music and talk about space, one of my big loves. If you get a chance to tune in I’d really appreciate it. I’ll be tweeting through the show as well and would totally dig hearing what you guys think about it all.
The Sounds of Space – it’s going to be a bit interesting.

Higgins my boy! Tell me that this is being archived and made available somewhere. Alas I’m not around this evening to listen live but it sounds like an awesome show. Best of luck.

Hopefully I’ll be able to get a recording, and if so I’ll put it up on this very blog as soon as it’s in my hands.
