30 Days of Music: Day 24
Weezer – Only In Dreams (Youtube, audio only)
I guess this is something that’s meant to tumble off the top of your head, isn’t it? People always have funny or surreal answers for this, or incongruous tracks. Like Fire by Kasabian. Or Burn Baby Burn by Ash. Hilarious choices, I’m sure you’ll agree.
It’s one of the few things I haven’t really thought about when it comes to song selection. Essentially it won’t be of any real consequence to me – rather, it’s for the people that you hope will be in attendance. It’s not a topic I like to dwell on much, but thinking about it, it’s the last record you’ll ever get to play. The very final song of the DJ set that is this mortal coil. The Love Will Tear Us Apart as the nightclub that is your life closes.
One options is getting someone to hit shuffle on your iPod, which would go some way to emulating the random nature of life. Unfortunately I just tried it on my iTunes library and it served up Pjanoo by Eric Prydz and I’ll be damned if that’s going to play as my coffin escapes from view. Oh, but in this instance please don’t have me damned.
So I’ll just go with a song that I’d be happy to hear at my funeral, if that makes any sense. That song is Only In Dreams by Weezer, and it contains one of the most joyous crescendos that I have ever experienced in music. I strongly hope that when I die, anyone that has any love for me would try and celebrate my life rather than mourn my death, and in my own way I’d like this tune to encourage them to do that.
