30 Days of Music: Day 21
Level 42 – Something About You (Youtube)
Again with the cheating on this. I don’t listen to music as a result of my emotions; rather, music will usually be the thing affecting my mood, and that’s an entirely unpredictable thing.
A song that never fails to bring a smile to my face when I hear is, however, is this. Something About You by Level 42 is a great example of eighties synth-pop nonsense that always makes me feel a bit cheerier. That slap bass! And the fact that there’s some nice Daft Punk parallels – the lyrics “We’re only human after all” feature, and Daft Punk have a track titled Something About Us. COINCIDENCE OR SOMETHING MORE SUBSTANTIAL? You be the judge.
Anyway, if you don’t like this, and the wonderfully dated video with the band introducing themselves in French and what can only liberally be described computer graphics, then you have no soul.
Welcome to Bitter Fingers - a blog about popular song. Written by the hand of Mark Higgins, it serves up the very finest in new music, radio shows, spurious comment and #1 jams.
