30 Days of Music: 09 A Song That You Can Dance To

The Killers – Mr. Brightside (Youtube)

We are out.

We go to The Metro, Oxford Street, London, some time in our first year of university. Don’t look for it, it’s not there any more. It was the first nightclub I had been to in London. The charge at the door, the handstamp, the narrow stairs, the sticky floor, it was all new. It was exciting.

We buy drinks. Something and vodka. Everything was something and vodka, then. We sit at the side. We chat. We plan our move, with unspoken but military precision.

We sit.

Sometime later, Mr Brightside comes on. We look at each other.

“Shall we have a dance then?”

“Yeah.”
