Magnetic Fields – Too Drunk To Dream (Youtube, audio only)
I suppose a bus technically is a somewhere.
Between October 2007 and February 2008, I was living in Bristol but working in Bath, which meant an hour bus ride back and forth every day in the pitch dark. At that time in the morning, I wasn’t capable of any sort of human interaction, so I’d put my iPod on and attempt to get my brain into some sort of working order.
On constant repeat was Distortion by Magnetic Fields most mornings – the feedback and morose coals somehow spoke to my tired mind. Whether I’d been drinking the previous night or not, Too Drunk To Dream fitted just right. It will forever remind me of those bus journeys and that part of my life – when I listen, it’s like I’m right back on the X39.
