Mother Mother – Hayloft (Youtube)

A scorcher of a track for your Monday afternoon from Mother Mother. This was introduced to me by the lovely Lauren Laverne when I was working on her BBC 6 Music show (a station which you should all get involved in saving, by the by), and I was ashamed to say I hadn’t heard of them before.

Maybe it’s just me, but these guys from Vancouver just don’t sound Canadian. There’s something of Pixies about them, in the angular riffs and shouty bits, but it’s a sound I haven’t really heard rivalled elsewhere.

It is an absolute barnstormer of a track (see what I did there? Barn? Hayloft?Oh I don’t know why I bother) about a pair of young lovers getting up to no good in the titular hayloft, with the threat of a tooled up father not far behind. Lovely stuff.

The track’s been around for a few years but is getting a re-release in Europe next month, so I’m expecting to hear a lot more from these types as we move through the year.
