Marina and the Diamonds – Hollywood

Marina and the Diamonds – Hollywood (Youtube)

After perhaps one of the finest pop tracks of the year in Mowgli’s Road, I can honestly say I wasn’t expecting this track from Marina and the Diamonds.

It’s not as immediately catchy as its predecessor, but stay with it – the heart of a pop superstar is beating very much in the middle of this song. It might stray into tongue-in-cheek, Kate Nash-esque spoken word soliloquy at one point, but it manages to rein it back in. Hooray!

And what a chorus! Marina really does have a voice not like anyone else around at the moment, which is quite nice after a year of rather samey, albeit delightful  electro mistresses. The track doesn’t drop until next February, so you’ve got plenty of time to get liking it. Make no mistake, 2010 is Marina’s year.
