28 Nov 2009Yeasayer – Ambling Amp (Pitchfork TV)
I can’t really think of a better way to polish off November on Bitter Fingers than with this new Yeasayer track. Ambling Amp has been available to download for free on their website for a while now, but the video’s only just emerged.
And oh boy, what a video. Mirror-masked riders! Mountain drummers! Electronic face goo! Naked people running everywhere with scant regard for the consequences! This, dear reader, is how you make a music video. Making sense shouldn’t be a pre-requisite for a promo video in my opinion, and it looks like Yeasayer agree with me.
The track itself is a delightfully bouncy electro piece, threatening to come unhinged with a brilliant faux-saxophone (fauxophone?) solo right at the end just when you didn’t think it could get any more bizarre. One of the tracks of the year, no doubt.
Welcome to Bitter Fingers - a blog about popular song. Written by the hand of Mark Higgins, it serves up the very finest in new music, radio shows, spurious comment and #1 jams.
