I have to say, when Veckatimest dropped earlier this year and the internet lost it’s collective mind for Grizzly Bear, I remained relatively nonplussed. Don’t get me wrong, I thought it was a good album, but it didn’t grab me straight away.
Turns out, it’s an album that requires a bit of patience, and it’s a welcome change to my usual diet of electro synth pop, and it’s one that I like more and more as I listen to it. It’s another one of those albums that needs to be listened to all the way through to really get it.
The first word that comes to mind to describe Ready, Able is lush. The many layers of instrumentation, effects and vocals build up to create a song that’s well worth the patience of letting it flow.
It’s a great video as well, with melting faces and colours perfectly accompanying the sounds behind it. Looks like Veckatimest might just be one of my favourites of the year after all.
