Patrick Wolf – Hard Times

In: Music Video

15 Jul 2009

I woke up to this track the other day, as it was being played on Shaun Keaveny’s 6 Music breakfast show. There’s definitely something satisfying about waking up to music that no alarm clock can ever match. But that’s another blog entry all together.

There’s something about Patrick Wolf that’s never really appealed to me, which is odd because I’ve never listened to any of his music until this particular track. It might be because he’s too thin. Who knows what he gets up to. At any rate, I’m glad I did because this track and the album it comes from The Bachelor are a joyful mix of electronic and classical.

The strings that push this track forward are the real selling point, despite being seemingly attacked by a Korg throughout. Wolf has a decent voice as well, lower that you’d expect from a man of his frame. Mainstream pop success can’t be far away.
