Little Boots – Remedy (Youtube)

I’ve posted about Little Boots before, but I make no apology for doing it again. There’s clearly a movement towards female electronic type musicians this year, as been seen in the rise of artists such as La Roux and Ladyhawke. I’m firmly of the opinion that out of all the crop, Little Boots is at the top.

Not everyone agrees with me – in fact, I argued this point with the erstwhile Jamie McKelvie in some depth on my Twitter, who seemed to think that La Roux is better. He’s wrong, of course. You don’t get voted the BBC Sound of 2009 if you don’t have some serious musical chops, and with Remedy Little Boots has got the hit I’ve been expecting all along.

Complete with some hot Tenori-on action, it builds up like a Dracula film set in a French discotheque, before exploding in one of the biggest choruses of the year. You need a license for this chorus, it’s that big. On top of that you’ve got a wall of synths alongside a delightful melody that will be stuck in your head for hours after you’ve heard it. It is, in short, really rather good.

You’d do well to get involved with Hands, the album it’s taken from, because while it’s not perfect it’s an enthralling debut with plenty of choice tracks. Do it now.
