Calvin Harris – Ready For The Weekend (Youtube)

Calvin Harris (his real name is Adam, incidentally) is one of the few celebrities I follow on Twitter, given that his update range from the semi-interesting to the bizarre. For some reason, these recently consist of videos where he asks celebrities to open a jar of jam. The one with Katy Perry is a particular delight.

I’ve enjoyed his own brand of bedroom dance music for some time now, but this song really didn’t catch me until after a few listens. Admittedly the chorus is generic summer dance anthem fodder, but it’s the very and the construction of the song that holds it together. It’s nice to hear those ELO and Supertramp style synths and vocals going on in music today, and that’s why Harris stands out among some of his peers – no-one else is making that slightly old fashioned but endlessly catchy music.
