Chairlift – Bruises (Youtube)

Bit of an odd one, this. Despite coming out in autumn of last year, or at least getting a lot of radio play at that time, Chairlift have decided to release a video for Bruises now. Which is nice.

In fact, my good friend Matthew Sheret and I got together last Christmas to discuss our Festive 10 – that is, the best ten tracks of the year, in our humble (but correct) opinons. This song was quite high up on my list.

Generally I’m a fan of any song that has interchangable male and female vocals, a call and response of the sexes if you will. (A great example of this is Michael Cera and Ellen Page’s cover of Anyone Else But You from the Juno soundtrack.) This Chairlift track has that, alongside swirly synths and a lovely little drum machine that I’d quite like to be friends with.

There’s also “doo-doo-doos” for those of you that like that sort of thing (i.e. everyone), plus what sounds suspiciously liek a theremin. All in all it’s a lovely little electro track and you’d be mad not to have a listen.
