8 Apr 2009I first saw Metric supporting Death From Above 1979 at the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth, in what turned out to be the loudest gig I’ve ever been to. But that was DFA, and Metric were something different.
They’ve always had a swagger to their sound, from the very enjoyable Old World Underground, Where Are You Now? through to Fantasies, their latest full length release. Gimme Sympathy is one of the choice cuts from that album. I personally think Metric are a lot more enjoyable than Broken Social Scene, of whom singer Emily Haines is also a member. It’s probably the new wave vibe to it and the fact you can dance to it without having to have a fringe.
Oh, and feel free to enjoy Haines’ very sexy robot dance in the video. I know I did!
Welcome to Bitter Fingers - a blog about music. Written by the hand of Mark Higgins, it serves up the very finest in new music videos, plus classic tracks and any other ace stuff he can think of.
