31 Mar 2009So after a bit of a wait, Skype has finally rolled out onto the iPhone.
The idea of having free calls on a device which is designed to make money through costed calls is an interesting one, and it’s something Apple have nipped in the bud – you can only use Skype over wi-fi, not a 3G connection. Darn and drat on that particular one, but even still it’s an interesting app.
You use the same account as you would on the PC, but the interface is pleasing enough and more importantly fits in with the iPhone aesthetic. Sound quality is about as good as online, but will depend a lot on how far you are from your wireless connection obviously. Personally it makes the whole Skype affair a lot more appealing – generally if I sit down at a PC I’m not going to be able to do two things at once. That’s just me though, I’m sure you’re all much better.
Either way, if you fancy dropping me a line my username is markhiggins which is simple enough to remember. Happy chatting all!
